Volunteering surgical expertise at the Phnom Penh Children's Surgical Centre

Phnom Penh Children's Surgical Centre

Mr O'Toole has visited the Phnom Penh Children's Surgical Centre on three occasions to work with local experts in their care of burns and landmine victims, and of children suffering the consequences of poverty and war.

Cambodia continues to suffer the long-term consequences of decades of conflict. Landmine injuries, burns, and congenital deformities affect thousands of children who have limited access to specialist surgical care. Mr O'Toole's visits have allowed him to contribute his expertise in reconstructive surgery to help these patients.

Working with the team in Phnom Penh has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. The resilience of the children and the dedication of the local staff is truly humbling.
— Mr Greg O'Toole

The Impact of Volunteer Surgery

Reconstructive surgery can be life-changing for children in developing countries. Beyond the physical correction, it can restore confidence, enable children to attend school, and improve their long-term prospects. The work carried out at centres like the Phnom Penh Children's Surgical Centre represents some of the most meaningful surgery a plastic surgeon can perform.

Mr O'Toole is committed to sharing his skills and knowledge with local surgeons, helping to build sustainable surgical capacity in the region.
